On February 24, in our Charles Village hood, The Baltimore Museum of Art offered a free chance to see (what will become a ticketed exhibition) with Monsters & Myths: Community Celebration.

In addition to a free chance to see "Monsters & Myths: Surrealism and War in the 1930s and 1940s" an exhibition that presents nearly 90 Surrealist masterworks (by artists such as Salvador Dalí, Pablo Picasso, Max Ernst, and André Masson) -- the celebration also had a number of free events.

These included:

  • Roving masked performers and make their own Surreal masks
  • Building a collaborative labyrinth with Morgan State University’s architecture graduate students
  • Crankie performances (hand-cranked illustrated stories) by Liz Downing, Matt Muirhead, Dirk Joseph, and Katherine Fahey with emcee Emily Schubert
  • "Draw your dreams" with Jungian art therapist Sondra Geller
